How does your work support healthy streamside ecosystems in the James River watershed?
Conservation Services is a hardwood tree planting and establishment company that has been installing riparian forests all over the country for the last 24 years. For the last 4 years we have partnered with the James River Association to install hundreds of acres of riparian forests in the Middle James River watershed.
What do you love most about your work?
As a project coordinator I am involved with many different aspects of the planting such as planning, installation, and maintenance. It is rewarding for me to see a project come to life from the beginning; and care for that project until its successful completion. Where after its establishment we will have created a forest that will provide and care for generations to come.
What was your journey/career path that led you to the work you do now?
I graduated from Ferrum College in 2010 with a B.S. Environmental Science. After college I held several odd jobs until the beginning of 2012 when I started work at Conservation Services. I was originally hired to assist with a large planting in North Carolina and to do some warehouse work during the Spring of 2012. From that point I have worked my way through the company; starting with Warehouse Technician, then Warehouse Superintendent, then Project Coordinator, and currently a Senior Project Coordinator/Partner.
What do you value most about the Consortium? How has it positively impacted your work?
I think anytime you have a group of like minded individuals working together for a common goal there are many benefits including the sharing of ideas and experiences.
