Jordan Bennett, James River Association

How does your work support healthy streamside ecosystems in the James River watershed?
I help the James River Buffer Program with maintenance and volunteer plantings, and help the James River Stewardship Program with assessments and maintenance of buffers. Both parts of my job promote healthy and invasive free riparian buffer zones!
What do you love most about your work?
I love having the opportunity to work both in the field and on the office. I have met such amazing people- coworkers, volunteers, and landowners- who always bring a smile to my face and make the work I do that much more important to me.
What was your journey/career path that led you to the work you do now?
I grew up loving the outdoors, specifically the river. I began my environmental work in high school as a raft guide on the Shenandoah River. I continued this passion at college, graduating from Bridgewater College with a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. I was hired as an intern during the first year of the James River Stewardship Program and have stayed at JRA ever since!
What do you value most about the Consortium? How has it positively impacted your work?
The Consortium provides such a great space to discuss ideas and goals with a large group of like-minded people. There is so much value in bringing together people from different backgrounds and organizations.
