I

How does your work support healthy streamside ecosystems in the James River watershed?

As the program manager for River Watch, a citizen science water quality monitoring program, I collect and analyze water quality data from all over the watershed. Additionally, as the GIS Administrator for JRA, I provide support to the buffer and living shoreline programs for their geospatial data and mapping needs.
I

What do you love most about your work?

Interacting with volunteers and going to conferences across the watershed to meet other professionals, all of whom are passionate about making a difference and making the watershed a cleaner place for all to enjoy.
I

What was your journey/career path that led you to the work you do now?

I worked in the beer industry for quite some time in Richmond, VA and then moved to West Virginia in 2020 for a change of scenery and to go back to school for a career change as well. I ended up getting a degree in Natural Resources and Wildlife Technology and after moving back to Virginia, enrolled in University of Richmond’s GIS Professional Certificate Program and was hired by JRA shortly after completing that certificate.
I

What do you value most about the Consortium? How has it positively impacted your work?

Meeting and collaborating with other natural resource professionals and being able to share and tweak ideas among each other.
